Dr Mumbo

Who received Ganesha pants as a Christmas present?

Dr Mumbo has largely always shied away from religious iconography as a fashion statement.

Ever since Madonna raised hell at the Vatican with her Like a Prayer video, Dr Mumbo felt it best to err on the side of caution when it comes to staying on the right side of spiritual leaders.

In light of that, he was curious about the choice of Hindu god Ganesha adorned on this pair of bikini bottoms being sold by Hong Kong-based company CowCow.

The pants have upset one religious figure at least. Rajan Zed, the president of the Nevada-based Universal Society of Hinduism, said: “Ganesha is highly revered in Hinduism and was meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not to adorn one’s buttocks/crotch.”

Zed, who once called for a boycott of Amazon over its god-themed doormats, has made a habit of protesting against Hindu imagery being used on household objects. However, Dr M thinks he may have a point here.

After all, it was only a few months ago that Meat and Livestock Australia found itself in hot water over an ad featuring the vegetarian Ganesha at a dinner table serving lamb.

Maybe not one to gift to the missus next Christmas.
