Dr Mumbo

Dettol Singapore’s Hannibal Lecter moment

Dr Mumbo has seen some very strange ads in his time. However few have failed to beat the Water Wally Shower Dance for its ability to make people squirm with unendurable embarrassment.

For those who remember in 2013, the Singapore Public Utilities Board produced a public service film that was accused of containing paedophilic undertones because it featured a character called Water Wally appearing to watch a young boy in the shower.

Five years on, and while Dr Mumbo has yet to see an ad reach such cringe-inducing heights as the Shower Dance, he has to hand it to Dettol Singapore for its efforts in this Facebook post.

Because there is nothing remotely creepy or cannibalistic about the phrase: ‘nothing beats the refreshing scent of a freshly-cleaned child’.

For  the sake of parents out there, Dr Mumbo just hopes the copy alone is enough to convince the general population of the ad’s claims.

He is fearful to imagine what might happen should folk feel the need to attempt a physical test. It just might leave the wrong impression:

‘Nothing beats the refreshing scent of a freshly-cleaned child’.
