Former Maxus Philippines boss Kingshuk Mitra joins Essence as COO

GroupM Asia-Pacific has moved another wave of senior Maxus refugees into its growing digital agency Essence following a period of heavy restructuring.

Kingshuk Mitra, the former managing director of Maxus Philippines, has been named Essence chief operating officer for APAC and will be move to the agency’s Singapore base.

Reporting to APAC CEO Kyoko Matsushita, Mitra will be tasked with handling client services and driving “day-to-day operational effectiveness”, the agency said in a statement.

Mitra first joined Maxus India in 2007 and was transferred to Manila in 2013. He said: “Essence has built its success on the back of operational excellence across verticals, which is an integral part of the agency’s DNA.

“The role in itself is very exciting to me, as it involves creating the backbone of the operational structure across various projects. This is pivotal as it brings the various disciplines under one umbrella.”

Meanwhile, Maxus’ former head of digital for APAC, Monica Bhatia, has been named vice president client partner for Essence’s regional Google business.

She will report to Dave Marsey, president and global client director and will be based in Singapore.

“The media industry is changing so rapidly and in such a dynamic way,” she said. “I’m excited to work with the best media practitioners in the industry who are committed to making advertising more valuable to the world.”

The reshuffle follows GroupM’s decision last year to merge its agencies MEC and Maxus and create a ‘media, content and technology’ known as Wavemaker.

The decision was said to be largely driven by holding company WPP’s intention to pool resources into Essence, due to the agency’s strength in digital and data-based marketing.

Since the merger, Essence has opened new offices in Bangalore, Jakarta, Melbourne and Mumbai.
