Ex-Ogilvy APAC president Adam O’Conor handed Grey China leadership

The former president of Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific has is joining Grey Group as chairman and chief executive officer for Greater China.

Adam O’Conor previously spent two decades at the agency before leaving in January this year.

Under his new remit, he will oversee Grey’s offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Taipei, leading 500 people.

“Adam O’Conor brings a tremendous track record of success to his new role at Grey,” the agency’s global CEO Michael Houston said.

“As a key architect of the Ogilvy network in Asia, he has demonstrated vision and dynamism in building brands across all communications channels. He has an unparalleled grasp of what clients are looking for in a future-facing marketing partner.”

Starting as a trainee at Ogilvy London in the mid-90’s, O’Conor went on to serve as a group account director and moved to Ogilvy Sydney in 2001 as regional business director for IBM.

He came to Ogilvy Hong Kong, the network’s APAC hub, in 2006, was promoted to managing director a year later and group CEO in 2010.  Since 2016, he has led Ogilvy’s global brand management team.

He said: “I’ve watched Grey’s transformation into a global creative powerhouse over the past decade and I’m delighted to become a part of its leadership team for the future. Working closely with Michael Houston, we intend to take Grey’s China operations to the next level as a centre of innovation for our clients and growth for the network in the years to come.”

Grey China’s current client roster includes Procter & Gamble, GlaxoSmithKline, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Intel, Volvo and HSBC.
