Dr Mumbo

Did newspaper headline really state that Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi were to ‘mate six times in 24 hours’?

Dr Mumbo is shuddering at the thought of what went on behind closed doors during this week’s meeting between China president Xi Jinping and India’s leader Narendra Modi.

Not because they are two of the world’s most powerful political players, who hold the cards to tackling a host of global problems like climate change and international trade wars.

Instead it’s because Dr Mumbo now has this rather unsightly image in his mind, which allegedly appeared courtesy of The Times of India. Or did it? Some say it was a photoshopped hoax, as claimed here? The truth will out.

Still, even if it was a viral hoax, it was an achievement of sorts – managing to insult billions of people and the two most populous nations on earth in less than 10 words. Hopefully, this doesn’t cause a diplomatic incident.

But judging from the tasteful Times of India online headline – ‘Plenty of work for PM Modi, Xi Jinping with six meetings in 24 hours’ – calm will have returned to the newsdesk now. The mystery as to the origins of the headline though remains unsolved.
