Sony Pictures Asia promotes Virginia Lim to regional boss

Sony Pictures Television Networks Asia has appointed a new senior vice president and general manager to replace the recently-departed Hui Keng Ang.

The broadcasting giant has promoted Virginia Lim, the former head of content, production and marketing, to the regional leadership position.

Based in Singapore, Lim will oversee the management and operations of SPT Networks’ portfolio in South East Asia and in China.

She will also be responsible for both distribution and advertising revenue as well the overall content strategy in her capacity as general manager.

One of her key tasks will be overseeing Asia’s Got Talent after Sony struck a multi-series agreement with FremantleMedia International for the rights to the hit talent show.

Reporting to Sony’s regional EVP George Chien, Lim steps into the role quietly vacated by Ang in September last year.

“This is a challenging yet exciting time for the industry, and with our talented team at SPT Networks, Asia, I am confident that we will continue to deliver the best in Asian and English general entertainment, while at the same time creating significant value for both our business partners and consumers,” said Lim. “I’m optimistic about the next chapter in our story as it promises to be SPT Networks’ best one yet.”

Lim’s promotion coincides with the recent appointment of Derek Wong as vice president of production and the promotion of Avani Bhanchawat to vice president of advertising and sponsorships sales.
