Ikea suggests ‘making furniture not war’ during Trump-Kim summit in Singapore

As discussions between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un get underway on Singapore soil, furniture brand Ikea has put its own debate forward on social media.

The Swedish company released an irreverent post on its Facebook page with the tongue-in-cheek suggestion that: “Today of all days, let’s make furniture not war.”

Created by BBH Singapore, Ikea’ s post comes as the two powers prepare to meet on Sentosa today for a historic meeting.

“Not only is this humble yet powerful tool the key to assembling all good things at IKEA, it’s also a wonderful symbol of unity,” said BBH Singapore creative director Mara Vidal.

The campaign also marks yet another attempt by Ikea to poke fun at current affairs.

In 2016, the brand responded to Singapore senior Minister of State’s Josephine Teo’s comments on couples needing only a “very small space to have sex” – by uploading a GIF of their ‘very small space’ collection.

Last year, after it was revealed Ikea rugs were being used to fashion Game of Thrones rugs, the brand quickly released a three-step DIY process to make a cozy fur cape.
