Dad-turned-superhero battles dark forces in short film from BMW and W+K Shanghai

A father who tackles an evil Queen, a gang of Kung Fu fighters and violent kidnappers is the star of a 14-minute short film to promote the launch of a new car from BMW.

Created in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy Shanghai, the dad-turned-superhero film is designed to showcase the “spirit of reliability”.

The antics of the father, played by actor Mark Zhao, are imagined by his son who does not understand the pressures of his father’s life.

He is seen driving the BMW X3 throughout the film, with the vehicle being positioned as “the reliable car for reliable people”.

W+K Shanghai creative director Okan Usta said: “Reliability is a quality that is often taken for granted, yet we all need that person who is the anchor of stability in our lives.

“We wanted to make their struggle larger than life by showing it through the wild imagination of a child. It’s a universal insight that touches so many lives, including mine as a new father.”
