Former Havas marcoms director Asiya Bakht joins BBH

Bartle Bogle Hegarty Asia has finally appointed a new regional communications director for Asia to replace Deborah Abraham, who left earlier this year.

Former Havas Asia-Pacific director of marketing and communications Asiya Bakht started in the Singapore-based role this week. Prior to that the job was being covered on an interim basis by Christina Peyton, the APAC head of marketing and public relations at stablemate Publicis agency Digitas.

Bakht views BBH as a pioneering agency

Bakht will be reporting in to Charles Wigley, BBH Asia chairman. She told Mumbrella she was attracted to the job by BBH’s rich pedigree of creativity.

“BBH’s creative culture and its unique blend of creativity is widely respected in our industry,” she said. “It’s one of the few agencies that has evolved into a solid digital player without sacrificing its pioneering creativity. I am looking forward to playing a role in its success story in Asia.”

Wigley himself added: “Asiya has an impressive track record of delivering innovative solutions across both digital and traditional media. She brings an expertise in content, social and digital, which are now a critical element of all communication initiatives.

“This paired with her understanding of industry and the stakeholders makes her a compelling choice for this role.”

Bakht was a compelling choice, said Wigley

Bakht had been with Havas since 2010, initially for its media arm Havas Media and later at the group level. Before that she was a journalist for 12 years working for the likes of ANI – Reuters India and Campaign Asia.

She has a master of arts degree in English literature from Delhi University and has volunteered for the Central Singapore Community Development Council.
