Media Group buys epicure magazine as publisher continues to expand portfolio

Singapore publisher Media Group has acquired Magazines Integrated and its flagship lifestyle publication epicure Singapore and Indonesia.

The deal, which includes the digital asset, will see Magazines Integrated Pte Ltd fall under the Media Group umbrella.

But it is unclear what will happen to Magazines Integrated’s other publications: Pets, a bi-monthly and Bites, a monthly title.

A media release only address the acquisition of epicure adding it will be “taking Magazines Integrated Pte Ltd into its organisation”.

Media Group said both Pets and Bites “may re-emerge later with another entity”.

Another title promoted on Magazines Integrated’s website, Hooked, ceased publication when associate publisher Jamie Ho passed away in 2014, Media Group said.

Media Group has been approached for clarification on whether it plans to sell Pets and Bites.

The acquisition follows the recent addition of lifestyle title SG Magazine and its accompanying website from Asia City Media Group.

Dennis Pua, managing director of Media Group, said: “We are very pleased to see this acquisition materialise after much deliberation with group publisher Ho Sum Kwong. epicure is a very established gourmet title with an influential presence in Singapore and Indonesia.

“With epicure joining our group, we will be able to offer more integrated and tailored solutions to our clients across our luxury media platforms.”

Sum Kwong said it was “timely” to become part of Media Group which is “assertively expanding its footprint in the print, digital and social media arena across a wide range of magazine brands”.

“Being part of a bigger group with a diverse genre of titles will lead to synergies that will take epicure to new heights,” he said.

Sum Kwong will remain as publishing consultant, while senior publisher Cecilia Goh will continue to manage epicure Singapore and Indonesia editions with managing editor Adeline Wong helming the editorial front.

Epicure was launched in April 2010.

Media Group was formed at the start of the year following the merger of Regent Media, Key Editions, Pulp Kreatives and Miles Media.

The addition of epicure brings its number of products to 17 across print and digital.
