Publicis Media names Asia Pacific head for commerce division

Publicis Media has drafted in online retail specialist Samrat Sengupta to spearhead its Commerce Practice operation in Asia Pacific.

Sengupta, in the Singapore-based role of regional practice lead, will work across all Publicis Media brands in the region.

Expanding the business in Asia Pacific and driving growth for clients through “new commerce solutions” will be the focus, according to Publicis.

Sengupta joins from Shopee, one of the largest e-retailers in the region, where he spent six months consulting on its business transformation.

Prior to that he spent 10 months in Indonesia as head of digital business at Alibaba-backed Tokopedia after almost four years at Rocket Internet.

Commerce launched globally as a dedicated Publicis unit in March. The plan, the network said, is to bring commerce expertise to clients surrouding strategy, media and marketplace investment and content and merchandising.

“Commerce has become a priority for our clients and they are increasingly looking to us as their partner who can bring a blend of media, sales, content, data and tech expertise to help drive decisions in this important and growing space,” Commerce Practice global boss Ali Nehme said.
