McCann Worldgroup Japan hires first chief creative officer

McCann Worldgroup Japan has named Alex Lopez as its chief creative officer after describing the Japanese market as a major focus for the agency.

The role is a newly-created position in Japan for McCann.

It said Lopez will work closely with each of the agency’s executive creative directors to “foster a more collaborative environment and strengthen the creative culture”.

Lopez has spent the past three years as CCO and co-founder of Brand Programming Studios in Los Angeles. He worked in Japan previously with Beacon Communications as CCO and managing director.

“Japan is a major focus for us,” McCann Worldwide global creative chairman Rob Reilly said. “Alex has the depth, knowledge and creative chops that we need. I have tremendous confidence in him, and all the ECDs, that we will continue to push froward with urgency.”

Lopez added: “I am truly excited to return to Japan and join MWG combining my past global and Japan experience with my last 10 years of living in the digital frontier.”
