Turner set to launch dual-screen experience for kids via Gumball VIP app

Turner’s Gumball VIP app aims to give viewers of The Amazing World of Gumball, a show on Cartoon Network, an experience that combines TV viewing with interactive elements on a second-screen – either mobile phone or tablet.

The app is slated to launch in Singapore and the Philippines in late 2018.

Once downloaded, the app will send its audience push notifications reminding them to tune in before an episode of the show airs on Cartoon Network.

Using an audio watermarking technology which ‘listens’ to the show for cues, Gumball VIP will pose questions related to the plot.  

Correct answers will be rewarded with codes that can be used to redeem prizes on the Cartoon Network website.   

The app will be available  on the App Store and Google Play.

Patricia Hidalgo the chief content officer at Turner EMEA & International Kids Strategy said: “Linear TV remains a key medium for kids.

“But what we need to do is ensure that it remains relevant in today’s world where there is a big shift in how our fans watch and engage with our content.

“Using this innovative technology allows us to do just that, by digitising the linear TV viewing experience and adding that all-important element of interactivity.”

Turner tested the app in 2017 and found that it featured in the Top 10 at the App Store during the trial period.
