Ex-Ogilvy India deputy CCO Ajay Gahlaut rumoured to replace Bobby Pawar at Publicis

Ajay Gahlaut is slated to be joining Publicis India in the wake of the departure of its chief creative officer and managing director Bobby Pawar, according to several industry sources.

Formerly deputy chief creative officer for Ogilvy India and chief creative officer for Ogilvy North, Gahlaut had left last month to “pursue his own interests”, according to a statement from the agency.

Through his decade long tenure, his second stint at Ogilvy, Gahlaut worked on brands like Pernod Ricard, BMW, KFC, Taco Bell, Dabur, Perfetti Van Melle, Pizza Hut and Sprite among others.

Ogilvy South Asia’s chairman and chief creative officer Piyush Pandey made a statement on Gahlaut’s departure that strikes a strange note on hindsight: “Ajay is looking for life beyond advertising and for that reason, I cannot stop him…Everyone has a dream and unfortunately, I can’t fulfil that dream. He has done a stellar job and I am very proud of him.”

Gahlaut is said to be replacing Bobby Pawar after the latter announced his plans to join Havas India as chairman and CCO. Pawar is expected to be with Publicis till the end of January 2019.

In a statement issued yesterday, Publicis India had announced it had finalised Pawar’s replacement.
