Four punches and a funeral: When death gets a chuckle

Death comes us all, but Dr Mumbo is one of the many who prefer not to think about it.

Well, Singaporean creative agency Breed has decided it is going to end the apathy with this taboo-busting online ad for Foxwood Will Services.

The agency explains the thinking behind the work with aplomb: “The solution is to show the worst thing that could happen – a huge fight at a man’s funeral.

“The one-minute online video shows various family members at a funeral: son versus uncle, brother versus sister, wife versus unidentified woman – punching, kicking and hammering each other in balletic slow motion.”

Apparently, the online ad will even be backed up by an out-of-home campaign at bus stops showing 10-second long digital films and radio ads depicting the fight.

There will be no escape, you have been warned.

Breed founder Keith Kwek says: “When it comes to the touchy subject of death, the first instinct is to take the sentimental route. But that particular space is saturated, and we needed our client’s product to stand out from the pack. So we went in the opposite direction – with a laugh.”

You certainly did Keith, you certainly did.
