Michael Zhang appointed CEO of dentsu X China after integration of Merkle&c

Dentsu Aegis Network has promoted Michael Zhang the CEO of Merkle&c to CEO of dentsu X China. This marks the integration into dentsu X of Merkle&c, an agency that was formed last year after merging DAN acquisition Merkle with Dentsu Inc owned &c.

This marks an expansion of the dentsu X brand in the country. It will be present across Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou with a staff strength of 400.

Dentsu X will now include the capabilities of Merkle&c which specialised in interactive marketing strategy, e-commerce, mobile and social media.

Zhang who was previously CEO at Neo@Ogilvy, has also worked across agencies with GroupM. He will report to the newly appointed Dentsu Aegis Network China CEO Michelle Lau, who returned to the network after the departure of Susana Tsui.

Commenting on the development, dentsu X global president Mitsuyuki Nakamura said: “dentsu X in China has seen exceptional growth over the past three years, expanding by 63%.

“This has been driven by the ability to create integrated, seamless solutions for clients in China.

“The newly expanded team and leadership further reinforces dentsu X’s ability to provide innovative client centric marketing services that attract, acquire, convert, and crucially, retain customers.”

Lau added: “Clients demand integrated and addressable marketing solutions.  Data, technology and creativity have to come together for the best. With Michael’s leadership and the additional capabilities from the &c team, dentsu X is now uniquely positioned to make that happen and drive growth for our clients in China.”
