Dr Mumbo

Vogue Hong Kong puts Gigi Hadid on cover of first issue despite ‘squinty eyes’ scandal

If you were the launch editor of Vogue Hong Kong looking to make a noise with your first front cover – what would you do?

This, sadly, is one of the many questions that keeps Dr Mumbo awake at night.

Anyway, it’s not the option Dr M would have chosen but it seems Vogue Hong Kong has answered the question itself – by putting controversial supermodel Gigi Hadid square and centre on the cover of the first issue.

In 2017, Hadid you may remember was the focus of a media uproar after she was filmed making squinty eyes to represent the Asian cookie she was eating.

She was later denied an entry visa to China when booked to appear at the Shanghai Victoria’s Secret fashion show.

Oh dear Vogue.
