BBDO Bangkok pushes for social inclusion in campaign for Special Olympics Thailand

BBDO Bangkok has created a film for Special Olympics Thailand, to encourage audience support for the athletes. Special Olympics Thailand is an independent national sports association that encourages differently abled athletes.

The association wanted a campaign that encouraged social inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities and to showcase the passion, strength and perseverance of those who compete.

Speaking to Mumbrella about the campaign, BBDO Bangkok creative director Kusuma Ruchakityanon said: “The inspiration came from watching a video of a race at the Special Olympics.

“At the finish line, regardless of when the runner finished, first or last, there was a ‘hugger’ – a person waiting to give the runner a hug – who would embrace and congratulate them, making them feel special and included.

“It was really inspiring and eye opening to see how much this small act meant to them. So, we wanted to bring this feeling of inclusion beyond the track, to increase empathy and social inclusion for those with a mental disability.”
