S4 Capital Singapore launch: The party of the year? Well, Sir Martin Sorrell left after 20 minutes
It was all set to be the party of the year. The S4 Capital launch in Singapore last Friday night looked to have all the ingredients in place for something special.
A new agency. Neuro-tailored cocktails. Vegetarian burgers. Superstar DJs. And Sir Martin Sorrell in attendance.
Dr Mumbo couldn’t wait to wet his whistle, so to speak.
Sadly, it all proved to be a bit of a damp squib for some. The technology that was supposed to create the magic cocktail mix didn’t quite work for Dr M or a number of other keen patrons.
A headset was meant to read your brainwaves and then calibrate the perfect drink for you. Perhaps Dr M was just unlucky with the tech and the timing. He was told by others it worked seamlessly earlier in the evening.
One punter told Dr M though: “Obviously, I don’t have any brain activity and so it’s stopped working; but I do hope the programmatic products work better than this.”
What a card.
And SMS had left the building by 6.20pm (the party started at 6pm). He had to catch a flight apparently. What a shame.
But rest assured, aside from that, a good time was had by all.
The neuro-AI-gamma-ray mixologist worked for me. But as whisky was not on the menu at the cocktail bar in the back – I was suggested a berry-infused vodka drink. Nice!
It was good to catch SMS for a quick “hello”. But it was definitely an awesome reunion of the veterans of digital in Asia.
ReplyOver promise.
ReplyUnder deliver.
Guess they are just as old school as the rest.
Now, just to be constructive, that was quite an invitation video from Media Monks…
I think it would have been better if they [Edited under Mumbrella’s community guidelines] music. SMS is exactly what is [Edited under Mumbrella’s community guidelines]. A lot of it perpetuated by [Edited under Mumbrella’s community guidelines]. Now he wants to come back and re-invent the thing for himself and run it all from [Edited under Mumbrella’s community guidelines]? As for the party itself, I am told we didn’t miss a thing. [Edited under Mumbrella’s community guidelines] stays so no surprise there lads.

ReplySeeing Sorrel without a shirt collar is unsettling in the same way as seeing your school teacher in the supermarket. Rationally, you know it must happen, but it just feels so… weird. And no 74 year old man should [Edited under Mumbrella’s community guidelines].
That invitation was toe-curling too – “we love your culture (and economic growth), we love your food (and relaxed [Edited under Mumbrella’s community guidelines])”. Ugh.
ReplyJust be happy the photo was cropped where it was – wouldn’t want [Edited under Mumbrella’s community guidelines]?
ReplyPublic appeal: can we please stop having journalists as moderators? They very rarely understand what is really going on and what they think are probing questions often fall flat.
If you are that desperate to appear in the trade press you feel you have to sell your soul by having them on stage you need to trust us it isn’t worth it.
The party was pretty second rate with very few industry heavy weights and far too many has beens, sorry I mean “veterans”.
ReplyTheS4 videos made me want to be invited. And I was. I flew in and it was gimmicky and empty. As a client I wondered how much [Edited under Mumbrella’s community guidelines] was wasted. I stayed for the travel summit. The content made it worth the trip.
