Consumer electronics retailer Courts is running a promotion offering a two-year ‘assurance warranty’ for Huawei devices purchased before August 31, claiming it will refund customers if popular apps from Google and Facebook stop working on the handsets.

This is being done to reassure customers who are reluctant to purchase Huawei after the brand found itself the subject of US government restrictions which could materially affect its access to hardware and software services from companies including Google and Facebook.

A recent YouGov survey revealed that critical brand metrics for Huawei including consideration, recommendation and buzz had dropped ever since the announcement of the restrictions.

Speaking to Mumbrella about the rationale behind the promotion, a spokesperson for Courts said: “As a leading retailer, we believe it is important to ensure that customers can purchase products from us with confidence. In light of the recent spotlight on Huawei products, we felt that this retailer-led programme will allow them to shop with peace of mind.”
