Gary Vaynerchuk questions the relevance of Cannes Lions and work that ‘no human ever sees’
First it was Bob Hoffman having a pop and now Gary Vaynerchuk has stuck the boot into Cannes Lion International Festival of Creativity.
Taking aim at questionable work winning awards at Cannes, he said at the event: “We’re about to clap and award a lot of people for a lot of work that no human has ever really actually seen.”
Then in this deep-dive interview with Facebook’s Nicola Mendelsohn (check the video at 4.23 minutes in), he states: “There’s a tonne of people that are going to win awards today, that business is declining dramatically.
“I struggle with that because the point of that creativity is to drive a business result. What’s the point of output, if you’re not getting the end result?”
Dr Mumbo has always been a fan of Gary Vee. For this latest outburst, he likes him that little bit more.
He hasn’t said anything new. We have always known that awards shows are actually useless and just for ego stroking. And passe ECDs and CCOs who think it’s a good thing to be asked to helm some judging. WHO CARES ANYMORE?
ReplyYet his company VaynerX has still justified having a weeklong yacht party at Cannes for the last 2 years.
ReplyAlright.
