Mumbrella Asia Awards launches with jury of 300 experts & 3 new categories – AI, consultancy and design

The 2018 Mumbrella Asia Awards ceremony

A jury of nearly 300 media and marketing experts has been announced for this year’s Mumbrella Asia Awards, which has an entry deadline of August 1.

With 287 jurors in total, it is the largest jury ever for the awards show. Now in its sixth year, the event ceremony will take place at Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre on November 6.

As in 2018, the jury will again be chaired by Mars vice-president of marketing for Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Africa Nicole McMillan. Joining her on the panel of judges will be a number of high-profile industry names with local, regional and global remits.

Jury chair McMillan is Mars vice-president of marketing for Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Africa

Among them are Singapore Airlines senior manager for brand and marketing Ranjan Jha, Facebook Asia-Pacific head of marketing Chloe Lim, GrabAds strategy and partnerships lead Ali Merchant, Lazada executive vice-president of branding and communications Vanessa Seow, WPP@Unilever chief executive officer David Dahan and VaynerMedia vice-president of global media operations Avery Akkineni.

Then there is Gojek vice-president of digital strategy Aaron Gomez, Google South East Asia head of ads marketing for large customers Lars Anthonisen, Singtel international head of marketing Cindy Tan, Netflix APAC head of partner marketing Helen Hidvegi and The Secret Little Agency managing director Richard Bleasdale.

Also onboard are R3 principal and co-founder Shufen Goh, The New York Times APAC vice-president Tom Armstrong, South China Morning Post business director Dawn Chan and LinkedIn APAC and China brand marketing and communications senior director Roger Pua.

Joining them as jurors will be Chope chief operating officer Sean Tan, brand consultant Jorg Dietzel, McDonald’s global media director Josephine Tan, Singapore Media Exchange CEO Hari Shankar, Tickled Media founder Roshni Mahtani, Nielsen head of marketing for Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East Deanie Sultana and TBWA head of disruption Steve Walls.

Meanwhile, other brands and organisations represented on the jury include the Singapore Economic Development Board, Razer, Marina Bay Sands, AirAsia, Johnson & Johnson, Spotify, e27, Ogilvy, Goodstuph, Procter & Gamble, Malaysia Airlines, Adobe and GOVT Singapore.

Gojek also has a presence on the jury

Plus there will be jurors from SGK, the BBC, Temasek, Standard Chartered Bank, PayPal, Clarks The Economist, EY, Dentsu, Formul8, BBDO, Time Out, Luxury Escapes, DDB, Vice Media, Sotheby’s, Cheil, IBM and Arsenal Football Club – plus many more besides.

The expanded jury size is part of Mumbrella’s continued drive to make the judging process even more robust and rigorous. It comes after the introduction of live judging two years ago, which will continue again this year.

It means that jurors will come together in Singapore on October 8 and 9, at Maxwell Chambers, for the second round of judging – in order to witness live presentations from those shortlisted, either in person or via conference calls.

Members of the jury will then get the opportunity to ask questions about the work and submissions, ensuring the judging process is both robust and credible.

A Grab executive also features on the jury
