Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo does the ‘Go Shopee’ dance in new commercial

Singapore-based ecommerce portal Shopee has brought on board ace footballer Cristiano Ronaldo as its brand ambassador. 

Developed in-house, the commercial features Ronaldo taking a break from scoring a goal to do the Shopee variant on the popular ‘Baby Shark’ song-and-dance sequence.

The campaign is aimed at driving traffic to Shopee’s upcoming ‘9.9 Super Shopping Day’. 

A release from the company said: “Cristiano Ronaldo will work with Shopee on a wide range of initiatives to engage and inspire people in the region.”

Speaking about the decision to bring Ronaldo on board, Shopee CEO Chris Feng said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with one of the greatest athletes of our time. 

“He is an inspiration to many, and his dedication to football matches the deep commitment we have towards our users. Together with Cristiano Ronaldo, we look forward to creating a lasting positive impact on our region.” 

Ronaldo added: “I am proud to be Shopee’s brand ambassador as we share the same ambition to be the best in our fields. I am always improving my game for my fans and my team, just as Shopee innovates to benefit their users in this region. 

“I am excited by this partnership, and I look forward to creating more special moments for my fans together with Shopee.” 

The commercial featuring Ronaldo is slated to air in all seven of Shopee’s markets in the region. Exclusive content themed around Ronaldo will be available to users of Shopee in South East Asia and Taiwan via the app and its social media platforms. 

The 9.9 Super Shopping day promotion will run from August 22 to September 9 and include discounts, cash-backs and flash deals.
