Andrew Darling joins Weber Shandwick as APAC VP for client experience

Andrew Darling has joined PR agency Weber Shandwick as senior vice president client experience for the Asia-Pacific region. Darling was most recently the founder and managing director of West Pier Ventures a strategic business communications consultancy.

Speaking to Mumbrella about the decision to wind down his entrepreneurial firm, he said: “One of the things that I was missing was working with bigger clients. My clients tended to be startups and the work they were doing was early stage. I wanted to do more sophisticated communications work.”

He added that he would look to bringing some of these firms into Weber Shandwick at a future date, if the fit was right.

Speaking about how the assignment with Weber Shandwick came about, he said: “I came to Singapore in 2016 with Blis and started West Pier Ventures in March last year. I returned to the UK in May because some family business needed to be taken care of, but I had already started talking to Weber. We closed the deal in the beginning of July.”

Asked about his role, he said: “With my experience of running my own agency and inhouse communication, I will focus on developing strategies for our biggest fintech clients.

“What happened in fintech is similar to what happened in adtech. The old model is being disrupted with new players coming in. They are enabling a change in the relationship between brands and customers. I will help define brand narratives and drive media engagement in a creative way.”
