GroupM APAC CEO Mark Patterson promoted to global COO

GroupM Asia-Pacific CEO and China chairman Mark Patterson has been promoted to the role of global chief operating officer.

The move will see Patterson relocate from Hong Kong to New York, but he will continue to have oversight of the Asia-Pacific operations until a successor is announced.

A statement from Group M said: “Mark will help bring GroupM’s vision to life and enable the organisation to best serve the complex needs of clients. He will be responsible overall for GroupM’s regional and country leadership and the investment, services and IT functions.”

In a statement on his new assignment, Patterson said: “I am very much looking forward to being part of (GroupM global CEO) Christian Juhl’s new team and equipping and strengthening our agencies with all they need to delight our clients , motivate our people and deliver growth for all.”

A veteran of the Asia market, Patterson has worked at Mindshare, leaving as CEO of North Asia in 2006, for a similar role in GroupM. He was given the Asia-Pacific mandate in 2010. Patterson presided over a period of significant growth of the GroupM brand across the region.

Speaking about the prospect of leaving Asia, he said: “Living and working based in New York  will I am sure be a very positive experience and stretch me professionally and personally.

“If I can borrow some of the brilliant work, learning, attitudes and mindsets that our team here in Asia-Pacific possess and appropriately propagate some and the best of that, I will. I have a lot to learn and hopefully to offer, so I will throw myself into it”
