A recruiter specialising in publishing and media has opened an office in Hong Kong.

London-headquartered Aspire Global Networks, which is the largest media recruiter in the UK, enters the market off the back of existing clients including Haymarket, Thomson Reuters and GroupM.

The office will be run by country manager Thomas Forrest and assistant country manager Katie Holmes, who have transferred from the UK operation.

The firm, which launched in Singapore two years ago, works with media agencies such as GroupM, Vivaki, Aegis, Omnicom, Havas as well as independents.

Aspire also represents research firms Ipsos Mori, TNS Global, Hill & Knowlton and Millward Brown, and does events recruiting for Euromoney, ITE Exhibitions Group, UBM and Incisive Media.

Hong Kong will provide a bridgehead into North Asia for Aspire, which also has plans to launch on the mainland.

“There are knowledge gaps in the market here, and we see an opportunity to fill those gaps,” said Forrest.

“When things are going well, you just need bums on seats. But when times are tough, you need to be able to show the benefit of taking on new people,” he said.

“We take a consultative approach. As a recruiter, it’s not acceptable to send someone to an interview you haven’t met yourself with no real knowledge of how the candidate could impact a business.”
