Wall Street Journal Asia hires David Crawshaw as real-time editor

David CrawshawThe Wall Street Journal has appointed David Crawshaw as real-time news editor for its Asia edition.

Crawshaw will run a team of editors in Hong Kong – where he will be based – Singapore and elsewhere around the region to ensure the news is quickly edited across a variety of digital channels.

He joins from Dow Jones’ London bureau where he led WSJ.com’s European edition.

“As we move to an ever-more digital news organization, the importance of the real-time desk in Asia as the frontline of our unsurpassed journalism can’t be overstated and we are delighted to have an editor of David’s verve and expertise to take on this new assignment,” Paul Beckett, Asia editor for The Wall Street Journal wrote in a note to staff.

Crawshaw will also take on a management role for Asia.wsj.com and India.wsj.com and run social media and mobile initiatives across the region.

In his career, Crawshaw has worked at the Australian Associated Press, where he covered politics.
