Former MIG Asia MD James Welch leaves Singapore for Dubai creative agency

James Welch, who left WPP’s now-defunct Media Innovation Group at the beginning of the year, is leaving Singapore for a job in the Middle East.

MIG closed following the merger of 24/7 Media with Xaxis, GroupM’s powerful automated trading arm, in December last year. Welch, who was Asia MD based in Singapore, was among those to leave the company in an early round of redundancies.

The Brit has joined Dubai-based creative agency Promoseven 360 as managing director.

Promoseven is part of the Middle East Communications Network, or MCN, which is majority owned by agency group giant IPG.

Welch said that he had never wanted to leave Singapore, but the Dubai opportunity was too good to turn down.

He told Mumbrella: “Having spent a couple of years helping creative agencies get access to cutting-edge media tools – and the data associated with those tools – now’s the time to run a creative agency that has great clients and an exciting ambition to help those clients use new creative tools to engage both current and prospective customers.”

Before moving to Asia to join WPP in 2012, Welch spent a number of years in Australia, as new business director at Korean agency Innocean and group account director at Oddfellows, which recently merged with Dentsu Australia.

In a varied career, he has also worked on the media agency side, for Vizeum in the UK, and as a consultant to brand agency FutureBrand in the UK and Hong Kong.

Before moving to Dubai, Welch spent six months consulting to client-agency relationship management firm TrinityP3.
