Turner has entered a content deal with Korean broadcaster MBC to launch a new Korean drama and variety channel for audiences in Southeast Asia.

The channel, called Oh!K, will run top MBC shows such as Jewel in the Palace, Diary of a Night Watchman and You Are My Destiny soon after they’ve aired in Korea.

Ricky Ow, who is a year into his role as president of Turner Asia Pacific, said he was confident that Oh!K will become an “iconic brand” in Southeast Asia, where Korean TV content is hugely popular.

The new channel, he said, is a combination of “the best in content with Turner’s proven history in curating some of the most successful channels in Asia.”

An announcement for which markets the new channel will launch in and when is to follow in the coming weeks.

Kwang Han Ahn, executive MD for MBC’s media business, said that the launch of Oh!K would “allow an even bigger audience to enjoy MBC’s unique brand of storytelling.”

The news comes six months after Turner assumed control of WarnerTV programming in Asia.
