DMG Events, the company behind digital marketing event Ad:tech ASEAN, is closing its Singapore operation, it emerged today.

An email from a company employee said that it “may be a shock” for the industry to learn that the long-running Ad:tech events would no longer be held in Singapore. Attendance numbers and the reputation of the event have suffered in recent years.

DMG Events also runs the iMedia series, which will also be discontinued as a result of the closure, which is effective at the end of the month.

The emerges just after Mumbrella reported a sharp decline in attendance for Ad:tech ASEAN in Singapore, which was held earlier this month.

The email reads:

It is with sadness to let you know that DMG Events Southeast Asia’s Digital Marketing Division will be shutting its business on 31 July 2015.

This may be a shock to you given the very successful events we have run in the past years in the region but the company is looking at the business as a whole and the macro-environment for this industry no long supports our growth here.

Unfortunately, with this closure also means that the events you’ve come to know and love; ad:tech and iMedia in all their variants will no longer be held in Southeast Asia. Please do stay tuned for these family of events in other regions.

Ad:tech events are successfully held in other markets at a different stage in digital development, such as China and India, where attendance numbers have been healthy. Ad:tech events are also held in Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

DMG said the total attendance at Ad:tech ASEAN a few weeks ago, excluding exhibitors and speakers, was 1,586 this year – down by about 200 on 2014. Exhibitors and sponsors complained to DMG about low footfall and engagement with delegates.
