Golin joins forces with Magic Group in China

Interpublic Group public relations firm Golin has formed a joint venture partnership in China to boost its presence in the country.

The deal between Golin and 16 year-old Magic Group to form a new entity called GolinMagic builds on a partnership that began two years ago, when the two companies began to pool their resources in consumer, corporate, health and digital communications.

The combined agency has more than 150 staff in its offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Details of the deal were not disclosed.

Sarah Chin, GM of Golin Shanghai, will lead the consumer practice as managing director.

Magic co-founders Catherine Zhou and Frank Ren will also take on MD roles, running the healthcare and corporate practice, respectively.

Adrian Looi takes on the role of head of digital and Rachel Hsueh, who is MD and head of technology for Golin Taiwan, will lead GolinMagic’s tech practice.

Zhou commented: “We’re excited to at last be able to announce this deal. Golin has been a great partner for us over the years. We have shared clients, collaborated and won more new assignments together. Creating GolinMagic was a natural next step and we believe we can bring something new and fresh to our clients and staff in China.”
