Philippine brands salute Miss Universe win on Twitter after announcement blunder on live TV

Brands in the Philippines paid tribute to the winner of the Miss Universe beauty pageant today, which was notable for the wrong winner being announced on live television.

Host Steve Harvey apologises after the wrong winner was announced

Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines, where the competition has an enormous following, was crowned Miss Universe after the top prize was initially given to the contestant from Colombia.

The Colombian held the crown of Miss Universe 2015 for seven seconds before show host Steve Harvey interrupted the show and apologised for the wrong winner being announced.

Brands including the Philippine Twitter accounts for Nescafe, Cebu Pacific and KFC took to the microblog to congratulate Wurtzbach.

“Thank you for satisfying our craving for the crown, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach!” tweeted KFC today.

KitKat saluted what the chocolate bar described as “the most beautiful break in the universe,” referencing its ‘Have a break, have a KitKat’ slogan.

Cebu Pacific tweeted “Feel the Philippine love, #MissUniverse2015 Pia Wurtzbach! Thank you for carrying the PHL flag to great heights!”

McDonald’s Philippines had been tweeting in the run-up to the announcement, portraying the contestants as cups of ice cream, but has yet to tweet about the announcement.
