Iflix to launch in Indonesia helmed by Emtek Group’s content head Cam Walker

Cam WalkeriFlixKuala Lumpur-based internet TV provider Iflix is launching in Indonesia, and has hired Cam Walker from Emtek Group to run the operation in Jakarta, Mumbrella can reveal.

Walker joins Iflix after just under a year as head of content development at Emtek Group, the parent company for Indonesian free to air networks SCTV and Indosiar, and pay TV platform Nexmedia.

Entry to Indonesia marks the company’s fourth market, after Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.

Both Iflix and Walker were unavailable for comment.

Walker comes on board at a time of intense competition for a slice of the region’s internet television market, with Iflix duking it out with Netflix and HOOQ for subscribers.

Iflix, which says it is Southeast Asia’s fastest growing internet TV service, launched in 2014 through a deal between Catcha Group and Evolution Media Capital, going to market with a competitive price proposition and a mixture of both locally produced and Hollywood content.

Before joining Emtek Group in May 2015, the month that Iflix launched in Malaysia and the Philippines, Walker was VP and territory head for Fox International Channels in Indonesia for a four-year stint.
