Energy drink ad tackles gender stereotypes in India as girl plays football in scorching sun

A young girl runs out into the scorching heat to play football with her friends in the latest ad to tackle gender stereotypes in India.

The ad, titled ‘Girl’, for Kraft Heinz-owned Glucon D, begins with a child whose gender is not obvious to the viewer jumping out of the window to play football after loading up on the energy drink.

The ad has shades of 2002 movie Bend it like Beckham as the girl dribbles a ball around straws planted in the ground by the sun to drain her energy.

The video is to run in social media, while a similar ad featuring a boy as the protagonist is to run on television.

Behind the ad was media agency IPG Mediabrands.
