Grey’s statement, in plain Singlish

Doherty

Law
Dr Mumbo must confess to being slightly baffled by Grey’s non-apology after handing back the Bronze Lion it won at Cannes that exploited the plight of refugees.
But, helpfully, Pat Law, the always forthright boss of Singapore social agency Goodstuph, has translated the grudging fuck-you-all statement from Grey’s chief spinner Owen Doherty into a language that makes it much easier to understand: Singlish.
Here’s Grey’s statement, released last night:
During Cannes we said the app was real and its creator, Grey for Good in Singapore, is a highly respected philanthropic unit that has helped numerous non-profit organizations.
Moreover, Grey is one of the most creatively awarded agencies in the world with the highest ethical standards. We won over 90 Cannes Lions this year alone so there is no need for scam projects. However, given the unwarranted, unfair, unrelenting attacks by unnamed bloggers, we are putting an end to this and returning the Bronze Lion so there is not even the hint of impropriety or a question of our integrity. The saying no good deed goes unpunished is apt in this case.
And here’s Law’s much clearer, swearier version of Doherty’s words, which she posted on Facebook:
Wah lau eh during Cannes we already told you the app legit and lim pei here everyone respect one ok? We help many organisations one ok? Some more, lim pei is also damn saat in the world – got many many awards and got ethics. You know anot, this year alone lim pei win over 90 Cannes Lions, so cheebye do scam for fuck? But since there are so many cheebyes cho bo lan kao pei kao bu, you win lah you win lah. Come I give you back your Bronze Lion. I see now how you dare hum tum me again.
Tell you man. Do good also kena fucked.
Perhaps you should handle Grey’s communications from now on, Pat.
Oh, and here’s a screengrab from a case study on Grey’s website which seems to summarise Doherty’s statement rather well too.
Pure Gold ???
ReplyLove it! Say it in singlish!
Reply…and that is well worth a Cannes Lion for Copy Craft.
ReplyI know this grey ad fiend well. Behind one way mirror doors he’s stamping his feet and jumping up & down with smoke pouring from his ears knowing he has finally been caught out. Clearly this time, no more dodging this one.
Normally well calculated he knows what he does, but this time arrogance threw caution to the wind, award glory is the goal that justifies the ridiculously high pay package he commands. Without a henchman to blame I wonder who’s head will roll this time, if any? No formal accountability of shame indicates nothing will change & the Showbaz escapes again!
For myself & many others, the shameless narcissism has left an embarrassing & dirty grey stain on many a cv.
ReplyThere are good and innocent people in Grey that were badly affected; let’s not allow a few rotten apples to spoil the whole basket.
And riding on someone else’s misery for your own personal fame? That’s a cheap shot. Let’s not forget this backlash affects the whole creative scene in Singapore. And a word for Pat Law – Can’t remember the last time Goodstuph did anything good.
ReplyAt least Pat has the balls to put her real name behind her comments.

ReplyI have never come across a worse run agency….they need to strike off the name Singapore after Grey….it’s a bad joke, plus it gives the general impression that this is a creation by Singaporeans.

Replygood information, i love this website
ReplyAccording to the credit list, he led the recent HKTB campaign out of Grey HK as CCO of Grey SEA.
ReplyIt’s not great work but at least it’s not a scam.
He’s trying to redeem himself.
So cut him some slack.
thats the sort of thing the regional cco himself might write to excuse himself here…
but its amazing to think that you need someone on such a high salary to put out such below average work….a junior team could have come up with that.
no insight no idea….guess that only applies to scam.
