Malaysia Airlines head of marketing Charles McKee to depart

Charlie McKeeCharles McKee, the head of marketing of Malaysia Airlines, is leaving after less than a year with the airline, Mumbrella can reveal.

McKee came in to replace previous CMO Dean Dacko in September last year from Canadian hotelier Delta, and is to move on mid-July, according to sources familiar with the matter.

He is to depart as the troubled carrier announces new leadership, with Ryanair’s Peter Bellew unveiled as the group MD and CEO yesterday, replacing Christoph Mueller, who stepped down from the top job in March.

Mumbrella has approached MAS for comment on a replacement for McKee, whose career includes senior commercial roles at Virgin Atlantic, Lastminute.com, Air Canada and Canadian Tourism Commission.

The news emerges just over a month after MAS shifted its global media business to GroupM from IPG Mediabrands. The airline hired M&C Saatchi Malaysia as its creative agency just under a year ago.

The Malaysia Airlines brand is still picking itself up from an unprecedented year in 2014, when it suffered two air disasters inside six months.
