Spikes reveals judging line up

Spikes Asia, the awards show owned by Cannes Lions and Campaign publisher Haymarket, has announced its judging line-up for the upcoming award show in September, with Grey Southeast Asia chief creative officer Ali Shabaz to lead the outdoor and radio panel and Dentsu Aegis creative chief Ted Lim to head up the direct, promo and activation category.

Shabaz and Lim are joined by the likes of McCann creative figure Prasoon Joshi, who is leading the judging for a music category, Yang Yeo from Wieden + Kennedy who’s overseeing design and Hakuhodo’s Kentaro Kimura for the digital, mobile and digital craft entries.

Shabaz, whose agency’s ‘I Sea’ app drew international media attention on the advertising industry for being a fake that nonetheless won an award at Cannes Lions, has a busy judging schedule ahead of him in the coming weeks, and will also be appearing on the executive judging panel at Ad Stars in Korea later this month, and the Kam Fan Awards in Hong Kong in September.

Outdoor is traditionally one of the categories most susceptible to scam work – advertising created by agencies to win awards and not solve real-world client problems.

Mumbrella was refused press accreditation for Spikes last year because of coverage that revealed a number of entries to be questionable at Cannes Lions, Spikes’ sister event. Despite evidence that proved these entries to be scam, the Cannes Lions did not disqualify any of the awarded cases.
