Publicis merges Saatchi & Saatchi with digital agency Arachnid in Malaysia

David Soo

Publicis Groupe has merged the operations of its creative agency Saatchi & Saatchi and digital agency Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid in Malaysia.

The consolidation will see David Soo, boss of Arachnid and also chief integration officer of Publicis One, the new brand that houses all of Publicis Groupe’s agencies in Malaysia, assume the top job running the merged entity.

The merged unit takes on the name of the digital agency, Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid.

The consolidation marks the first major change made by Tan Kien Eng, the new head of Publicis One Malaysia who was promoted from his position running Leo Burnett Malaysia six months ago.

Tan confirmed with Mumbrella that some redundancies would be made as a result of the merger.

In a press release issued earlier this afternoon, Tan said the merger was for the benefit of the group’s clients.

“With this consolidation, we are bringing together talents from two prolific brands for the benefit of our existing clients. In essence, we are creating a powerful new agency with Arachnid’s reputation as a home-grown award winning digital agency and Saatchi & Saatchi’s iconic global creative reputation,” he said.

Publicis One Malaysia was formed in May, bringing together Leo Burnett, Arc, Publicis, Saatchi & Saatchi, Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid, AdSell, Starcom, Mediavest, Optimedia and Liquid Thread all under one roof.
