Malaysia Airlines puts ‘real people’ at centre of Chinese New Year ad from M&C Saatchi

Malaysia Airlines and M&C Saatchi have made the people of Malaysia the stars of a new ad to celebrate Chinese New Year.

The video features Malaysians who are fluent in Chinese dialects offering a “truly Malaysian greeting”.

The ad ends with the tagline ‘the richness of Malaysia begins with our people’.

“The stars of the video are clearly the people, none of whom are professional-actors but rather real people who are genuinely fluent in the different Chinese dialects including Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien,” M&C Saatchi Malaysia said.

“Malaysia has always been proud of its diversity which is embodied in A Truly Malaysian Greeting, a reflection on how we embrace this difference whilst celebrating the various cultures and festivities of the country.”

The agency said it had been “staggered” at the response with the ad receiving more than 8000 likes and 4300 shares in the 24 hours since being posted on the Malaysia Airlines Facebook page on Wednesday.

“Comments have been encouraging, commending the airline for its very simple but poignant message which is testimony to the richness of Malaysia,” M&C Saatchi said.
