Sentimental ad showing a father-daughter bond goes viral in the Philippines

A tear-jerking ad showing a father watch his beloved daughter growing up before his eyes has struck a chord with millions in the Philippines.

The 90-second ad for casino-resort City of Dreams Manila has gone viral, reaching nearly 9 million people on Facebook and racking up more than 5 million views.

The video, captioned ‘Dads, try to hold back your tears’, shows a father with his daughter at various stages of her life: from childhood, to adolescence and then finally to her wedding day.

Each pivotal event takes place at the City of Dreams hotel, as the father’s voiceover concludes with: “When I look at you I can still see my child – my little girl… Life isn’t measured by clinging onto moments. So this time, I celebrate each one and learn to let go”.

When it was first posted last week, the video was viewed more than a million times. Out of the 9-million total Facebook reach, nearly 8 million of the impressions were organic and just 900,000 came from paid reach.

Created by Filipino agency Keyframe, the video is intended to create a “fresh perspective” on the hotel’s event facilities.

The hotel’s director of brand and marketing, Tes Aranda, said: “The father-daughter bond is so special that no one can match it. Filipinos are very family-centric. So this story was crafted to perfectly pinch the heart of the Filipinos.”

“This video gives a different take on City of Dreams Manila as a brand. We are overwhelmed that millions of people gave their positive reception to this story. As we all know, human truth cuts deep,” added Tom Eugenio, president and chief executive officer of Keyframe.
