Google-originated creative agency Toaster hires DDB Singapore’s Vinod Savio as ECD
Digital creative agency Toaster has named DDB’s Vinod Savio as its new executive creative director for Singapore.
Savio, who leaves DDB after eight years, will primarily be tasked with overseeing Toaster’s main client, Alphabet Inc, the parent company of both YouTube and Google.
Originally founded by creatives and technologists at Google Creative Lab in London, Toaster now has offices in San Fransisco, New Delhi, Jakarta and Singapore, according to its website.
Although Toaster still primarily serves Google and YouTube, it describes itself as an “independent digital agency” operating in-house as with Google’s own creative agency The Zoo.
The agency is currently housed in Google’s APAC headquarters in Singapore and has a headcount of 20 people.
Toaster said Savio’s appointment marked its “commitment to the Asia Pacific region and the growing market for [our] major client, the Alphabet group”.
Savio began his career in India at JWT Bangalore, Grey Mumbai and Ogilvy Mumbai, before relocating to Singapore where he spent two years at McCann Worldwide and the last eight years with DDB/Tribal Worldwide. He started his tenure at DDB as a copywriter, eventually rising to creative director by 2013.
He will now report to Jake Cooper, Toaster’s global ECD.
Savio said: “I’m looking forward to both broadening our European clients’ presence across Asia and serving the roster of burgeoning Asian businesses who require world-leading digital creative solutions.”
I have to say these google and Facebook boys have no clue how to hire creatives. Look at FB creative shop…full of jargon busting idiots from the unilever school of advertising. Same with google.

ReplyFB are total shits….the tracking and surveillance they indulge in should be outlawed and criminalised. And pasty faced zuckerberg should be banned from talking shit about how he’s building a community that shares. all he’s got are bunch of insecure freaks who need to be connected to it every minute to see if they’re missing something big. Facebook, creating a new generation of retards.
ReplyI say, looks like they burnt the toast this time.
ReplyTimes are hard and good hires are even more elusive. Not burned toast. Just budget Vegemite.
ReplyMarmite, more likely cos DDB must have been budget Vegemite. If at all they still have a speck of residual respectability.
ReplyJust Bedlamite.
ReplyThe word Google appears as many as six times in that short piece. Just one less than the word Toaster’s seven appearances. But Savio has been hired by Toaster – one of many Google vendors – and not Google.
Wonder why Toaster/Savio are so desperate for Google PR rub-off, given the fact that his last stint was at an equally embarrassing place like Tribal.
ReplyShows just how committed Toaster UK is to Google APAC, when they hand the reins of their top creative job to:
Reply1. A CD (not even an ECD, let alone a CCO)
2. From DDB (not BBH, TBWA or BBDO)
3. With pedestrian work like this: http://vinodsavio.blogspot.sg/
John Merrifield (Google) > KC Chung (Google) > Andy Greenways (Sapient) > Valerie Cheng (FB) > Julie Kalia (FB) > Ali Grayeli (Uber) > Savio Vinod (Toasters)
How the tech creative leadership profile has crumbled, ever since Mighty Merrifield pioneered that exodus from adland, exactly five years ago. The names have gotten progressively (?) smaller, culminating with this Savio boy now.

Hang in there, John and KC. You guys are our only beacons of hope for the future.
Reply” Andy Greenways (Sapient) > Valerie Cheng (FB) > Ali Grayeli (Uber)”
Sapient, FB and Uber wised up pretty fast….unlike the others.
