Rugby ‘caveman’ Sébastian Chabal is at your service in Marriott HK Sevens campaign

No stay at the Marriott International will ever be the same again, says a campaign tackling the brand’s sponsorship of the upcoming Hong Kong Sevens Festival.

During a series of short films, one lucky guest is treated to a very hands-on experience from retired French rugby star Sébastian Chabal.

Known as the ‘caveman’ for his huge frame and bushy beard, Chabal is shown playing chambermaid, chef and head masseuse in Ogilvy-created campaign dubbed ‘Stay Brilliant’.

The first film takes place in a Marriott Hotel room, where Chabal makes a dramatic entrance piloting a new service created for Sevens fans – a wake-up program named ‘Bonjour’.

In another clip, Chabal demonstrates his vigorous head massage technique and later shows the same guest the best way to eat a Hong Kong bao – by stuffing it in one bite.

Although released last month, the campaign has been promoted by Ogilvy Hong Kong ahead of the Sevens event this weekend.

“The flagship of the Marriott International portfolio, Marriott Hotels, is a brand known for innovation. We’ve tapped international rugby star Sébastian Chabal for our ‘Stay Brilliant’ video campaign to showcase our brand promises in an uplifting and humorous way,” said Mike Fulkerson, vice president, brand and marketing Asia Pacific at Marriott International.

“We chose Sébastien because of his continued passion for the game of rugby, even after his retirement,” said Reed Collins, chief creative officer of Ogilvy Hong Kong.

“During his playing years, his ability to maneuver creatively around the pitch and inspire fans is perfectly aligned with the Marriott Hotels ethos of innovation, creativity, dynamism, and inventiveness. We love the work, and we’ve very much enjoyed working with the whole client team during this process.”
