Men’s Health magazine goes back to the future with same cover star 15 years after launching

To celebrate its 15-year anniversary, fitness magazine Men’s Health Singapore has gone back to the future by using the same cover star who appeared on the launch issue a decade-and-a-half ago.

Explaining why he agreed to repeat the exercise, cover star and actor Allan Wu said: “I have been on many covers throughout my career, but Men’s Health has and will always be the most prestigious and meaningful.

“And for me to still be able to be on the cover 15 years later is even more meaningful and will hopefully inspire both men and women that we can achieve all of our fitness goals with dedication, determination, and discipline.”

The monthly magazine – which is owned by Singapore Press Holdings – is said to have a readership of 51,000, according to the the Nielsen Media Index 2017. A spokesperson for the title said: “The multi-format magazine brand has also evolved beyond the traditional medium of print, expanding into digital and social media.”

In addition to the Wu cover, through an online competition the magazine is inviting readers “with the physique and personality that is worthy to join the exalted ranks of previous cover guys” to put themselves forward to be a cover star. They can do so by sending in photos before the deadline of August 31.

Editor Kelvin Tan said: “The Men’s Health cover guy has always been someone who works just as hard on his body as he does on his character.

“We’re always on the hunt for Singaporean men who can exemplify this ethos, and the MH Cover Guy contest is a chance for local lads to put themselves up for a chance to show the results of their efforts to friends and family, as well as share the life and fitness lessons gained on their personal journey.”

Entries will be featured on the contest website for public voting and the winner will be determined by those votes and the Men’s Health judging panel. The contest is open to male Singapore residents aged 18 years and above. The winner will walk away with over $6,000 worth of prizes.
