The Renault ad that could actually be a public safety announcement
Sometimes an ad comes along that just leaves you scratching your head. And so it was with this Renault TVC created by Law & Kenneth Saatchi & Saatchi in India.
Dr Mumbo is not sure if it’s a car ad or a public safety warning on what not to do when you come across elephants on a country drive.
But Renault head of marketing for India Virat Khullar is having none of it. He insists: “This campaign uses SUV imagery to bring alive the strengths of this big small car.”
Ok Virat, if you say so.
And L&K Saatchi & Saatchi executive director Charles Victor is also a believer. “Young Indians are increasingly doing short drive holidays and self-driven/planned trips making the SUV-inspired Renault KWID a perfect match for this growing lifestyle,” he says.
“We married this ready-to-explore-the-world attitude with the new KWID and the result was this charming piece of communication.”
And the creative force behind the work, L&K Saatchi & Saatchi executive creative director Kartik Smetacek adds: “Inspired by its SUV design, we wanted to reposition it as an ally in adventure.
“While also showcasing its latest class-leading feature – a reverse parking camera.”
Right then, Dr M can’t take anymore of this. Over and out.
