Mumbrella wins two golds at Asia Pacific Publishing Awards – including ‘News Media of the Year’

Mumbrella has won two awards at the Asia Pacific Publishing Awards in Singapore – for ‘News Media of the Year’ and ‘Trade Media of the Year’.

Jurors recognised the work of the Singapore-based team over the last year with Mumbrella being the only organisation to scoop two golds across the 14 APPA categories – which celebrate the best print and online media across the Asia-Pacific region.

Among the other APPA winners were Asian Geographic Magazines, Burda, HRM Asia, Ink and Charlton Media Group.

During the ceremony at One Farrer Hotel – attended by more than 200 people – domestic wins were also handed out by the Media Publishers Association of Singapore.

The MPAS winners included Singapore Press Holdings, Expat Living, Edipresse Media and One Championship.

The president of MPAS, John Thet said: “The MPAS and APPA Awards represent the best of industry practice in published media – whether it is in print, online or across a variety of platforms.”

Backing him, MPAS executive director Chrystal Wong applauded the media organisations that had shown their support for the industry by entering the awards show – now in its twelfth year.

She added: “Our industry is facing its share of disruption but it’s also loaded with creativity, boldness and a love of hard work that is helping many businesses to thrive in difficult times.”

The awards were judged by a number of industry experts – including Mumbrella Asia publisher Dean Carroll who judged only MPAS categories in order to avoid a conflict of interest with the two APPA categories which Mumbrella had entered.

The other jurors were Chrysler Communications founder Marina Mathews (head judge), Hakuhodo creative director James Lim, FIPP president and CEO James Hewes, and Vim & Vigour PR founder and managing director Lynda Williams.

Head judge Mathews said: “It’s a privilege to be able to honour the creative and talented work of media publishers. These awards are an incredible opportunity to celebrate and support the industry, which continues to deliver world-class content year after year.”
