Former Ogilvy China creative chief Graham Fink joins London-based This Place

Graham Fink who was most recently chief creative officer at Ogilvy China has joined This Place, a London-based digital, strategy and design studio, with offices in Seattle, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

Fink left Ogilvy in China last February after a near seven year long stint. During his tenure he is credited with playing a pivotal role in the Coke Hands ad, having commissioned a student named Jonathan Mak to create it.  The ad is apparently the most awarded piece of work in Coca-Cola history.

At the time of his exit from Ogilvy, Fink said: “I have had six wondrous years at Ogilvy. Now I need a new challenge. My ‘eye-drawings’ have opened my eyes to the great new opportunities of VR, AR and AI: creativity is at such a pivotal point.

“I will also continue to teach and develop the creative talent our industry needs. The world is our oyster.”

After his departure, the agency did away with the chief creative officer role in the country and hired Reed Collins as CCO for North Asia including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Korea.

Commenting on Fink’s appointment, This Place CEO Dusan Hamlin said: “This Place has been going from strength to strength with the recent expansion to Hong Kong, the growth of our team, additions to our client list and now, Graham’s appointment.

“Not only is he a good friend of the agency, but he’s also one of the most prominent creatives of his generation and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him join the team in what will be a fantastic opportunity for us to learn from one another and enrich our agency’s offering and skill set as a result.”

Fink added: “Over the years, I’ve explored everything from advertising and filmmaking to graphic design and photography. I’ve mixed mediums, disciplines, technologies and ways of thinking.

“I firmly believe that it’s this curiosity and unwillingness to settle for being in the bubble of your industry that drives creativity and progress. That same curiosity to venture into the unknown and learn permeates This Place. They’ve always delivered outstanding work, but what really sets them apart is this drive to explore. I’m excited to learn from the bright minds here and see what we can create together.”
