‘Game of Thrones’ themed campaign for OTT platform Hotstar celebrates spoilers

While generally reviled, spoilers and the people who spread them far and wide, are the heroes of a new campaign by DDB Mudra Group for Indian OTT platform Hotstar.

To advertise the fact that this year, Game of Thrones on Hotstar is streaming simultaneously with the US broadcast, the campaign showcases scenarios where various underdogs are able to get revenge by being ahead of the loop on the show and any potential spoilers.

Speaking about the approach, DDB Mudra Group national creative director Rahul Mathew said: “For a manically followed show like Game of Thrones, spoilers as an idea is both insightful and creatively fertile. Then it was just a matter of  bringing the idea to life in the most entertaining manner.”

Hotstar Pay’s head of marketing Sunder Balasubramanian added: “The single minded proposition to communicate was that this year the GOT fans in India could watch the show live with the US on Hotstar Premium.

“The creative idea of ‘the first to the throne owns the spoilers’ captured this thought simply, and stayed true to the language and milieu of the show.”

A campaign for the show on Hotstar last year posited the platform as a faster alternative to torrents
