Kyoko Matsushita promoted to global CEO at Essence

Media agency Essence has named Kyoko Matsushita as its next global chief executive officer. She replaces current global CEO Christian Juhl who will take charge as the global CEO of Group M on October 1.

Matsushita’s elevation comes close on the heels of a previous promotion to the role of global chief client officer announced this May. She still had oversight of the Asia-Pacific operations where she was CEO during the transition period. Her new role as global CEO will see her moving to San Francisco. She will continue to report to Juhl.

A note from Essence credits Matsushita with driving the fastest regional growth inside the network and the establishment of offices in Bengaluru, Delhi, Jakarta, Melbourne, Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.

Speaking about her appointment, Juhl said: “Kyoko’s deep relationships with our clients, her knowledge of our culture, and her vision for the future make her the perfect person to lead Essence into its next era of growth and innovation.

“I am looking forward to working closely with her in my new role at GroupM.”
