‘Shingy’ leaves his role as digital prophet after ‘speaking into the soul of our industry’

Dr Mumbo is sad to report that everyone’s favourite ‘digital prophet’ and industry whisperer, David Shing, has left the building.

Yes, Shingy has exited Verizon Media having been with the company since joining AOL in 2007 – seeing its journey through the Oath brand and beyond.

But never fear, Shingy is not giving up work entirely. He plans to consult for brands, as he explores “a new path”.

In a statement, media and marketing’s doppelgänger to British comedian Russell Brand said that he had greatly enjoyed being “an intrapreneur with Verizon Media – becoming the digital prophet, inspiring audiences, educating brands and agencies, and providing a unique perspective on what this industry needs to advance forward”.

He added: “We inhabit a pivotal time at which much is at stake in how we practice media and marketing.

“I’ve had the rare privilege of speaking into the soul of our industry (as a futurist) for the past decade, and I believe it’s a critical time to preserve the tenants of human dignity, creativity and compassion – as we engage the thrilling opportunities at hand.”

Dr M couldn’t have put it better himself Shingy. Good luck in the next chapter, we hope to hear from you soon.
