Mei Cheong leaves Starhub as VP of brand and marketing communication

After a brief stint at telecom firm Starhub, Mei Cheong has left as vice president of brand and marketing communication. Cheong had come on board this May following the exit of Rod Strother as VP of brand and marketing communication. At the time, Starhub had said: “Rod expressed his intention to leave the company last year; however, he agreed to take on the brand and marketing communications role until we find a suitable candidate.”

Cheong had moved from Indonesian telecom firm Indosat Ooredoo, as group head of brand, marketing and communications. In a statement, a spokesperson for Starhub said: “We confirm that Mei will be leaving to pursue other interests. We wish Mei tremendous success going forward and thank her for her contributions over the last five months.”

During her stint, Cheong had spearheaded StarHub’s national day campaign dedicated to the founding mothers of Singapore. On being asked if Cheong’s replacement was likely to be an external hire or sourced from within its ranks, a spokesperson for Starhub said: “For all executive roles in StarHub, we look at all recruitment options. We will announce the successful candidate once the selection is finalised.”

Cheong had extensive experience in advertising and telecom having worked for agencies like Lowe Singapore, Ogilvy and JWT in the UK, besides telecom firms Maxis and Indosat Ooredoo.
